Our story

VELOHUNT – cyclists at heart!

Who are we and why do we do this?

Mission

Our mission is to make everyone’s day sunnier and guide everyone towards a more self-preserving lifestyle. We want every person to feel the joy of an active lifestyle and to move around as much as possible in the fresh air! To achieve this, we offer products that provide a good feeling and experience. We listen to all wishes and share valuable advice, doing it all with care and respect for every person! When you come to us, you can be sure that we will help you navigate the variety of goods and find a high-quality product that suits your needs. All this so that these products bring you joy for a long time!

We place special emphasis on children as our future and driving force. We only offer the best products that ignite the joy of movement in children. So that movement is not just a random adventure for them, but develops into a lifelong habit. We pay attention to details because we know how difficult it can be for a small child to manage a heavy bicycle and how important it is that their bike actually moves well.

Habit has tremendous power, and children learn best through example! Therefore, we want more and more families to discover the magic of cycling together and, in this way, embark on a hunt for collecting shared memories.

Where did it all begin?

It all started with the need of the “Pro Jalgratturite Klubi” and one of Estonia’s strongest mountain biking teams at the time to acquire top-quality products. The desire and opportunity to offer valuable products to everyone else laid the foundation for the establishment of an e-shop. For the first 15 years, we operated under the name ProShop. The Proshop.ee e-shop went public in February 2009, being one of the first cycling-themed e-shops in Estonia. Our product range grew steadily, and soon it took up an entire room instead of one shelf, and eventually the garage. In 2016, we moved out of the home premises and opened the ProShop bike store in Tallinn.

For some time, we sensed that the name ProShop did not reflect our essence well enough. In addition to top athletes, we offer valuable products to all other people who enjoy an active lifestyle, including small children. A new name, Velohunt, grew out of us, and we gradually began working towards adopting it. In May 2024, we went public with our new name and opened the new e-shop www.velohunt.eu. This is the page where you are currently reading our story 😊

Why Velohunt and what values does it hold for us?

Although our product selection is not limited only to cycling, we still define ourselves as cyclists at heart, because cycling creates freedom and that’s where it all started. Our essence is reflected in the name, VELOHUNT (Velo-Hunt, which means “Bike-Wolf”), where our cycling heart is combined with our other important values, also carried by the wolf as the Estonian national animal. We are always a reliable guide on the hunt for finding new cycling equipment or perfecting existing gear! All this to make cycling a truly enjoyable experience for an increasing number of people.

We also asked others what they thought of our new name and what values it carries in their eyes:

Allan: “Similar to the wolf, we value freedom, clean and untouched nature! The wolf is considered a symbol of our wild and untouched nature. It is one of the indicator species of a healthy ecosystem; by its existence and abundance, one can assess the health and balance of the forest. I dare say that the existence and abundance of cyclists (Velohunts) is also an indicator by which to assess the living environment and its friendliness to people.

We value an active lifestyle and taking care of our body and soul! There is no doubt about the wolf’s active lifestyle, but in addition, thanks to its muscular body and strong legs, it is also a physically very resistant and vital animal. Cycling, as an endurance sport, also provides good physical fitness and develops teamwork.”

Kristi: “I read about wolves and was immediately struck by how cohesive and family-valuing animals they are. Wolves find a mate for life and care for their pups together. They live in packs, and by cooperating as a pack, they can achieve great results. It is the same with us, the Velohunts—we cherish our family, and together we can fulfill even the biggest dreams. This family, in a broader sense, also includes our customers and partners.

Furthermore, the wolf is depicted as a symbol of courage and manliness. Wolves do not give up when difficulties arise; instead, they are highly adaptable and bravely protect their family and territory together. We are brave and full of vitality, similar to wolves—we are survivors!”

Kristel: “In the wolf, I recognize our proud king of the forests. To me, the wolf symbolizes a leader, which we should also be as a bike shop—to be the best (offer customers the best brands), the smartest (know our products and offer quality service), and show people the way in the landscape of (bike) sport. We have found very nice people for our team, united by a passion for cycling, and we function perfectly as a team, just like wolves in a pack :)”

Rasmus: “I would like to be as fast and powerful as a wolf, whose maximum speed can reach up to 60 km/h. If achieving that speed proves impossible without aids, then at least with the help of a bike, it may become possible.”

Uku: “I identified with the name immediately upon hearing it; I associated it with both the primeval Estonian forest full of wolves and maintaining traditions, as well as the hunt for a new bike. After all, the reverberating sound of a high-quality bike’s freewheel is comparable to the howling of a wolf—AWESOME!”

Anti: “The wolf is called the sanitary of the forest; joking aside, the same could be said about the Velohunt workshop: we weed out faulty and time-worn bike parts and only release viable specimens back onto the streets. We operate honestly and straightforwardly. We sell goods that are high-quality and service bikes that are worth servicing, also with high quality.”

This is VELOHUNT—a wolf who always looks towards the forest, whether it’s with a mountain, road, or some other type of bike 🙂
