Since AbsoluteBlack has its own patented narrow-wide tooth combination that ensures the chain stays securely on the sprocket, a chain guide is not really necessary. However, there are riders who feel safer using a chain guide and whose more extreme riding (rock gardens, jumps, navigating between rocks) seems to require a chain guide.
